[ Thanks to the nurses, Midoriya's lock screen and his home screen are both pictures of them together. It's ridiculous but Bakugou hasn't noticed yet so Midoriya isn't going to call any more attention to it than he absolutely needs to. It's...cute. Bakugou's face smooths out when he's sleeping and he looks younger, softer. It's the kind of photos that he hopes they're going to be able to take someday when Bakugou's awake, but that's still a work in progress and he knows it.
In the meantime, Bakugou is discharged to his apartment, with the strict instructions of making certain he doesn't tear any stitches. For some reason the nurse from earlier levels a look at him, points, and tells him to make sure which okay, fine, that's valid but it's not like Bakugou's going to listen to him, not really.
They take a cab to Bakugou's place where Midoriya tells him he knows he's not going to follow any of the instructions but like, at least try? Maybe? He vanishes a few hours to get things like food and anything else that Bakugou doesn't have readily available, along with his laptop and a few other miscellaneous things from his apartment. On his way back he buys two more bags of groceries and supplies, so by the time he's back in Bakugou's apartment his arms are full and while he's not straining it's weird to feel like a piece of himself is missing. Maybe missing isn't the right word; it's not a bad feeling, but it feels like there's a thread, something connecting him to Bakugou. Did All Might feel this too, with him?
It's not something he can ask so he shoves it down and focuses on unpacking. Grocery bags are put in the kitchen and Midoriya tugs something else out of the bag - a massive, soft blanket which he casually drops on top of Bakugou's head on the way back into the kitchen. ]
I'm going to make dinner, do you want anything in particular? [ A pause, considering. ] I'm not making hot pockets for dinner, just so you know.
Offered a kind of challenge(?), Bakugou practically pools completely into the kitchen. The drawer he opens has both a small assortment of utensils and also the larger spoons wedged beside the wooden utensil holder. He lifts one out and hands it over to Midoriya. Far right drawer on the end. From out of this same drawer, he takes a knife in a sheathe, uncovers it and puts it on the counter for a moment so he can organize things.
Chopping is fine. He’s good at it. When he finally gets going, when Midoriya gives him things, it’s actually not unlike how he had been at the camp when they were making dinner, when Uraraka found it astoundingly horrific he was that good with a knife. He’s not quite so chaotic anymore, but he is still insanely fast and accurate. It’s a wonder they aren’t headed back to the hospital so he can get a finger reattached.]
Spices are in the slotted drawer that pulls out between the fridge and the counter.
[He can’t point exactly, so he waits until Midoriya is looking at him, and then he nods toward the skinny rolling cart-drawer shoved in the space between. Three rows of spices and ingredients. If Bakugou cooks, this is the best evidence. Weird.]

[ It was the right choice to make. Relieved, Midoriya goes back to putting things away and bringing things out as needed. The little touches around the kitchen aren't a shock, either; Bakugou makes such a big deal out of something and then downplays the others. It's not something he's unfamiliar with but every time he notices proof of it, his chest feels a little tight.
On one hand, the humbling Bakugou had to go through in high school was probably needed. On the other, Midoriya wants for Bakugou to think of himself even half as highly as Midoriya does despite everything. Like many subjects, it's one he barely touches until it seems like it might be an alright moment. ]
Thank you. You know merchandising suggested a pair of salad tongs but they were my legs?
[ They were hilarious, but also he would never live it down, especially with the part you pull and it going up and down. They'd turned that down, but Midoriya had posted it in the group chat to near endless hysterics.
Everything he needs is assembled before he starts heating the water; it's not his kitchen and he wants to make sure he doesn't mess anything up by forgetting something so he's careful.
So, cooking... obviously superhero duties. Some collectibles. Not a lot[ He starts peeling garlic, leaning against the countertop. His arm, the one with the cast off of it, is scarred a little more heavily, fresh and pink but mostly hidden by the long green sleeves save for where the cuffs are rolled up. ] Do you ever think about traveling?
[What the fuck. While he doesn’t exactly laugh, there’s a snort which tries to hide the start of one, and there’s a bit of an amused smile on his face as he keeps chopping what he needs to chop.]
The hell? That’s fucking stupid. [God dammit. He can’t help it. He pauses, looks away, steels himself. His shoulders quiver just slightly for a moment before he can resume chopping, more firmly than he had been. Almost laughed out loud.
No, he keeps thinking about it. Midoriya won’t shut up. What he knows of seeing Midoriya’s legs, whether they were in shorts or wrapped around his naked waist... turned into tongs for, what? Salad? Shit. The laughter erupts out of him, thankfully more subdued.] Shut the hell up already, for fuck’s sake. [He doesn’t wanna laugh! He wants to chop shit for curry and pretend to be a hard ass.] Fire your whole fucking team, Deku. Seriously.
[For a minute or two, he just finishes the chopping before rinsing the knife and drying it, easing it back into the sheathe.] Dunno. Why? Ain’t got a whole lot of time to travel and shit. We can’t all be All Might. [After a second, he glances over his shoulder at Midoriya, almost like he wants to say something. He considers it first.]
[ It never got mass produced but it was his background for a long time until Bakugou started allowing Midoriya to take halfway decent shots of him. The update is much, much better. ]
The little tong-ends were my boots.
[ Midoriya snickers himself a little bit, pleased that he got Bakugou to break. The nurses didn't say anything about not laughing, so he figures it shouldn't count as strenuous. The water starts to boil, he busies himself with a series of bowls, puttering around Bakugou's kitchen admirably. ]
No, I won't fire them! It didn't get made so it's alright. [ He's utterly distracted a moment, watching Bakugou's hands do such a normal task and then turns back to the bowls, adding something into the pot, studiously watching it while he focuses on answering rather than ogling. ] Yeah. Mom's actually going to go see him later this year, I think. It's over a holiday so I can't, but I thought it might be fun to travel at some point. Some of the others were talking about doing a group trip and it sounded like it could be fun. Depending on where they chose, I guess, but I don't think anyone would choose anywhere too bad.
[Bakugou looks away, though not for very long. He turns in place and leans back against the counter with his lower back and palms, waiting to help when Midoriya, as usual, directs him to do something. His face is... surprisingly soft.]
You really wanna travel. [It hadn’t been about him necessarily even though the question was posed. He assumes Midoriya is... looking for an agreement, a companion. Midoriya doesn’t want to leave him behind. Midoriya doesn’t wanna be alone, not if there’s attempt at group plans. Really, he doesn’t find it surprising. Not that Midoriya would be scared; it’s deeper than that. Midoriya wants their friends to experience the world.] Where you wanna go?
Stupid hair did mention something once about going abroad, but then he never said shit again, so I figured no one did anything. [Reaching up, he rubs the back of his neck, feeling strange for some reason.] Guess I wouldn’t mind going to New Zealand or some shit. You gonna go to America like All Might?
I mean, I've thought about it but not seriously. [ Midoriya had been considering the idea of short-term travel like vacations but it's only at the last question that he puts together All Might and the mention of his father, earlier. Oh. That kind of travel, then.
It would be a lie to say he hadn't considered traveling for heroing. There are jobs he could take elsewhere. It was still busy enough here that he hadn't felt like he couldleave without worrying. Then again, the reason he and Bakugou were here was because they weren't yet Number One material. Maybe a change of scenery would help them get better. ]
I haven't decided what I want to do, yet. It's been... [ Midoriya lifts the spoon and gestures, slowly thickening curry dripping down from it. They're here right now, making curry in Bakugou's living room because it's been busy. Giving directions is easier than navigating his own complicated feelings on sidekicking outside of Japan but he can't avoid it forever, either. ] Can you start some rice?
[ It feels like cheating to look down and make sure the pot's not boiling over but it is at least a little necessary. It makes it easier to talk, a little bit. It helps him avoid the countless questions internally about whether or not it's alright that he doesn't know what he wants. ] I talked to All Might about it because I was worried it was irresponsible... but he pointed out that it was important for us to have as much experience and to learn from as many people as we could. So... I haven't really decided.
[Bakugou has spent too much time around Midoriya not to be able to notice the floundering. The awkwardness that rises up, it's familiar, makes him think of middle school, of when they were kids. When Midoriya was hand-flappy and unsure, always (it seemed) several steps behind.
But this time, it makes him frown. It's not a look he wants to see on Midoriya anymore, not when Midoriya has been anointed by All Might with one of the greatest gifts. There's no time for uncertainty now.]
It sounds like you've decided. [Pushing off the counter, he moves to the cabinet to dig out the container of rice so he can dump enough into the rice cooker for the two of them and the curry.] You just don't wanna fucking admit it. I'm not an idiot, Deku. [He adds the water, not looking at Midoriya as he has to squeeze by for it. Shuts the lid. Turns it on.]
If you want to travel, then do it. [He hates telling Midoriya to... go. He's selfish in a way. He doesn't want Midoriya to leave, but he's also fully aware of heroic duties, of what it means to be a hero with a quirk like the one Midoriya has--had? Is going to get back.] Stop twiddling your damn thumbs and make up your mind. If you can't be a hero somewhere else, what good are you? You're just worthless again.
Heroes can keep being heroes no matter where they go.
[ He hasn't. That's the whole problem. If he'd decided this would be so much easier but instead he's in this awful middle position where either option is valid and either option could be good for him, for them, but he needs to figure out which one he's going to do. In a way, he thinks that maybe it is better if he does go somewhere else. Aizawa called him a problem child and trouble does seem to follow him more often than it does anyone else.
But, it isn't that easy. It's never that easy. ] I'm not... worried about that. Not that exactly, anyway.
[ What if he leaves and something happens and he's not there? What if he leaves and something could have been prevented if he were there to help? What if, what if, what if?
He wants to travel, but maybe a group trip together with tighter security and secrecy is the safer option for everyone. Maybe he takes a job in a different place but still within a few hour train ride so if anything happens... But that implies he doesn't have faith in anyone here. He does. It's just not as easy as a yes or no, as a decision about what he wants for dinner. More than that, this thing between them that's nameless and shapeless would need to be defined, wouldn't it? ]
You mentioned New Zealand. Have you thought about it? Taking a sidekick job somewhere else, at another agency? Traveling?
[ The thing about New York is that it's a massive, sprawling borderline living beast that no amount of heroes is going to tame. Midoriya hasn't quite internalized it yet, which means that when something huge happens and lives are lost it's not as easy to just act like it's nothing. He doesn't take it as personally as he could but it still feels like a failure even when everything is done right.
When Ms. Potts presents the two of them with plane tickets and tells them that under no uncertain terms are they to come back before those tickets tell them to, he tries to tell her no. She can't use the argument that they're already bought because Midoriya knows the frankly obscene amount of money Mr. Stark has but she's just as intimidating as everyone else which means he and Bakugou find themselves on a flight to Malibu as incognito as they can be.
Midoriya tugs a beanie over bed-rumpled hair (why are flights cross-country so early?) and settles into the first class seat, staring blankly when he's offered champagne, , coffee or orange juice at seven in the morning. Coffee, he says more like a question and doctors it up with a frankly disgusting amount of sugar and cream, finally settling into the seat.
The barrier between their chairs goes up, which means once they've taken off, Midoriya pushes it out of the way and shamelessly leans into Bakugou's shoulder, cheek tucked in against him. It's not blatantly couple-y but it feels a little like it as he scrolls through his phone mindlessly, half-wondering if Bakugou's going to sleep or stay awake the whole six hours. When blankets come out, he shamelessly takes them and shakes one out, then the other, glancing up at Bakugou with a silent question. ]
[Miserable. Bakugou is pretty much one hundred percent certain he's going to be one hundred percent miserable. The last thing he wants to do is slow down the hero schtick. He was practically bred for it. Sure, he enjoys his alone time to recharge, but slowing down with hard work, doing something he loves?
Ugh.
But here his ass is, sitting side by side and first class with Midoriya, headed back across the damn planet to Malibu. "Who do I have to punch to get them to steer it back up to Japan?" is what he asks once they're funneling themselves down the aisle to the seats.
After, as bored already as he had been when first flying over, he orders a conservative, straight black coffee. The only addition to it is a shot of rum. Sue him.
He has his over-the-ear headphones on, but the volume is low enough he can hear Midoriya if chatter starts, or the stewards, or the overhead English. His head lifts and eyes glance up when Midoriya sits up. He looks between the blankets and Midoriya's unspoken question, then he grunts.] Come on. [He reaches behind his shoulders and shifts the pillow, turning so he can stretch out. [He beckons Midoriya with a wide hand to... fine, snuggle up beside him or whatever.
[ At some point they ought to talk about what's allowed and what isn't; Midoriya hasn't broached the subject yet but he's relatively certain that if he doesn't it never will be. For the time being, though, he relies on the fact that he knows Bakugou well enough to know what's too much (hopefully) and settles in when invited.
It's not perfectly comfortable but it's only for a handful of hours and when he gets the blankets and pillow situated (mostly using Bakugou as a pillow) it's actually...nice. Shameless with the invitation, Midoriya scoots under his shoulder and makes sure that Bakugou gets some of the blanket too; it's thin and barely does anything but Midoriya's slept in worse situations.
It also means that the blanket hides when he puts his hand on the inside of Bakugou's thigh, thumb tracing idly back and forth as he listens to the white noise of the plane. Every so often he'll tilt his phone, showing Bakugou the latest thing someone back home is doing. His mom has new plants, and she went out with Bakugou's for lunch. Kirishima took down some villain and got a newspaper spread.
Their friends are amazing, and it feels weird to be taking a break but it was pointed out that, well, they're going to another big city and it's not like crime just...stops. So he contents himself with dozing intermittently until they hit a rough patch of air and his hand clenches on Bakugou's thigh tightly, tensing up. He's not afraid of flying but ugh, ugh this part is the worst. Quietly, ]
[Even if it's strange to have Midoriya reclining on him, he thinks it's more comforting than the worry of having to chew one of the stewards out or whatever if they tried to say anything. (They don't.) He's praying he doesn't pop a boner from the big hand sitting so nicely at his thigh.
Damn Midoriya.
He drapes an arm around the top of Midoriya's chest, giving him both hands to scroll through his phone off to the side while Midoriya scrolls through the other. He glances when it's offered, either grunts, as usual, or cracks a smirk, or leans forward (with Kirishima, his bro) with interest.
And then he lies back, ends up dozing some with his phone propped on his chest along with Midoriya's head. The turbulence doesn't wake him so much as the grab on his leg, and he starts like he thinks Midoriya is in trouble, blinking blearily.] Mn.
Yeah... [He pulls the headphones off and glances around. Bad wind, he guesses. The sound behind his ears through the window is rocky.] Then you'd come out the other end with your ass on your head. [He puts his wide palm on the back of Midoriya's neck and rubs gently.] Here.
[Without waiting, he pops the red headphones over Midoriya's ears and settles the band in the fluff of green on top.
[ Of course Bakugou wouldn't be bothered. Midoriya huffs a little at himself under his breath and folds back into place gingerly. The hand on his thigh releases bit by bit until Midoriya's less tense, the talking a good distraction. ]
Like the meatball quirk. [ All quirks are cool and amazing but that one is uhhh. ] He--
[ Oh. Midoriya tilts his head accommodatingly and places it; he doesn't know all the words but the song is familiar, at the very least. Better, is hand at the back of his neck, big and comforting as he settles back into place and goes back to the idle press of fingers against Bakugou's thigh. The rumbling of the plane stops eventually; he catches some announcements but doesn't pay any attention to them past the fact that they're out of the turbulence area. ]
Sorry, Kacchan. You should get some sleep.
[ He can turn on a movie or something, he thinks, digging into his pocket for his own headphones so he doesn't take Bakugou's. ]
I was dozin'. [He's not bothered by Midoriya unintentionally snatching the headphones. Bakugou would rather the rough noise be drowned out than Midoriya tense and clutching at him the entire rest of the flight. He only slides them off when everything is again stable.] I'll sleep when we get there or whatever, damn.
[But he won't turn down a movie. Anything to occupy his time, though he'd prefer to be doing something more productive, of course. Even--hell, he might try to play a game or something while half watching.]
You good? Maybe you're the one that needs some fucking sleep.
[ Midoriya's voice pitches up in incredulity, grinning up at him. There's no way, the meatball quirk is so much worse. His skin prickles just thinking about it and he's spent a lot of time thinking about it. ]
Do you want to watch a movie or something? Or I have my Switch.
[ There are some cute games and he got it as a Christmas present!!! Any of it is good as a distraction, though. He's not scared of flying, exactly. They're durable enough that he's relatively certain they'd stand a chance of surviving a crash. Other people, less likely and the situation was ultimately a nightmare to consider. (Which, he has, in almost every iteration whenever he sees the steward's quirks, but threat evaluating every situation you're in is totally normal.)
The more pressing issue is that there's a lack of control that feels uniquely weird with being a hero. The internet is spotty. They can't make phone calls. All they can do is wait until they get to the end of the trip. Traveling by train is just so much easier. ]
I shouldn't have had the coffee.
[ He shoulda gotten the champagne or a rum like Bakugou. ]
[How many few times has he had to listen to Midoriya start up that drumming, endless muttering from the taxi ride to now? He can just feel the noise beating off his head in every direction until he finally has to tell Midoriya to can it.]
Gimme the Switch. [Both of them probably should have had a Xanax, honestly. Not even for fear of the flight, but to chill out for this many hours in a confined space.] If you got so much fucking energy, let me kick your ass at something then. [Because he already knows that any mention of trying to fuck around together in the plane bathroom will put rabbit in Midoriya's blood.
So even with Midoriya curled up half on him, he's already easily able to sit up, freeing movement of his arms.] Wait. You got the TWEWY remaster, right? [Yes. Give him something movement and action packed. Please God.
Or maybe not since Bakugou 1) has a temper, 2) explodes things with his hands, and 3) would be holding a Switch.]
[ Midoriya remembers getting up early for classes back at UA but somehow, getting up this early now feels like it's even more difficult. Six in the morning is entirely doable, of course, but between both of them getting home late, showering and falling into bed it feels like they've only been in bed a handful of minutes.
Grimacing at his phone, Midoriya thumbs the alarm off and his arm falls limply onto Bakugou's chest again, face burying into his shoulder. They have a few minutes before their daughter is up, which means he's spending it tugging the blankets up around the wild mass of his hair, breathing in the smell of Bakugou's skin while they lay there, fighting off sleep. There are a few quiet moments of relaxing, just listening to Bakugou's breathing, and then he hears her door open and close, the creak of steps as she heads to their room. ]
M'on it.
[ Pushing himself up on to one arm, Midoriya drops a kiss onto Bakugou's cheek, and then another lingering one onto his lips because they're there just in time for their daughter to smack the door open. Technically, it's their day off which means that as soon as they get her off to school they can crawl back into bed for another couple hours. Behind them, there's a come oooon! and tiny hands thudding against the door excitedly to get them up and then feet smacking down the hall to the kitchen. ]
I'm gonna get the little hero fed before she tries to crawl onto the counters again, and start some coffee.
[Bakugou never had this much trouble going to be early in school. He was a goody, complaining about everyone else and locking himself in his room by eight to sleep, get up early, refreshed.
Now he just feels old, and he's out unintentionally later than he'd like to really be more times than he enjoys. But usually it's with Midoriya, and most of the time it's enough distracted action and fight, he doesn't care. Then he comes home and they're dumped into an attempt at normalcy and bed, and he's asleep before he can even count to two.
His grunt by Midoriya's wildly fluffy hair is full of rocks, and it's going to be deliciously endearing when he finally blesses the world with words. For now, he huddles under the sheets and turns over, arm slithering across Midoriya's middle until they're flush. The silence almost puts him back to sleep, but the door shut down the hall gets him to grumble:] Dammit. [He digs his fingers into Midoriya's hip until he gets at least the kiss on the each.]
More like... little fuckin' villain... [He rolls over and shoves his face into the pillow, scrubbing the rough barely stubble of his jawline on it.] ...Comin'. [Once he drags himself up and puts more clothes on.]
[ Laughing quietly, he pries himself out of bed and drags one one of Bakugou's old t-shirts, pushing his head through the arm-hole with a distressed noise before managing to pop it through the correct one and tug it on. He steals a pair of his sleep pants for good measure and circles around the bed to press a kiss against the scruff on Bakugou's jaw, smiling. ]
You've got time. I'll bring you coffee.
[ Groggily, he makes his way out of the bedroom and as he's passing by the counters, scoops their daughter off the counter and onto his hip despite her protests that she can make her own breakfast. She can, it's just significantly less messy if he handles pouring milk into the cereal bowl.
Balancing her on his hip as he moves around the kitchen, he starts a pot of coffee and gets her settled at the table with cereal and milk. Be right back, he tells her, leveling a finger at her with a little smile, finish that, then brush your teeth.
It's debatable on if she'll listen, but she agrees and he fills a second coffee mug to the brim, heading back into the bedroom, to carefully crawl up onto the bed, straddling Bakugou's waist over the blankets. ]
[By the time Midoriya returns, he's already rolled back over and sat up, pillow propped behind him even if he's mostly slouched down. He's scrolling through his phone, checking messages, emails, a few social media updates, but mostly news. Under the crook of one arm is what looks like a wig identical to Bakugou's own hair.
Except, it begins wagging and moving when Midoriya comes up onto the bed. It's the dog, free of guard duty from the kid's room, making rounds by checking on Midoriya and Bakugou before once again, later, returning to the kid.
He waits until Midoriya has settled before he drops the phone on the bed beside him and reaches out to accept the mug of coffee. It doesn't matter how hot it is, his hands are too rough to care. Give him the Energy Elixir of Life so he can function with a little brat running him ragged.]
You know she's probably piling the fucking floor with cereal right now, yeah?
[ Midoriya murmurs to the lump of fur under Bakugou's arm, scratching an ear fondly once he has a hand free. After a cursory series of sniffs and a lick to his fingers, she hauls herself up and hops off the bed to go try and eat the cereal their kid has likely spilled. It leaves them alone for a few moments and while Midoriya knows that it's not going to be a long period of time, it's nice to just sip his coffee and wake up a little.
Gently, he combs fingers through Bakugou's hair, laughing quietly as it does nothing to tame the mess of hair under his fingers. Giving up, he strokes his fingers over Bakugou's jaw, thumbing over the roughness there. ]
Don't worry, the fuzzy vacuum just left to handle that for us.
[ Bakguou always looks good enough to eat but sleep-rumpled in bed is one of his favorite looks for him. ]
I just wanted to drop this off. You can pay me with a kiss and then I'll go make sure she hasn't blown up the kitchen table.
[Bakugou snorts softly without disturbing the coffee he's lifted to his mouth to drink. It's somewhat scalding, but he doesn't give a shit about that either, and downs a light sip or so. This, unfortunately, doesn't help the husk to his already newly awakened voice.]
M'coming. [His head tips back like a cat, enjoying the attention.] Can't move with your damn ass on top of me.
[Rather than buck Midoriya off, he carefully cradles the mug in one hand and smooths the other up Midoriya's front. His fingers curl lightly around Midoriya's throat and under Midoriya's jaw, pulling the man down so he can offer up a cheekily deep, hungry kiss. Annoying, he smells and tastes like sugary coffee.] Maybe later I'll let you call me Daddy.
[His smirk is familiar, but he releases Midoriya so the man can get up. He's gotta start doing the same.]
[ Midoriya goes easy as you please, leaning into Bakugou with the coffee held out of the way so he doesn't risk spilling it, licking into Bakugou's mouth with a hungry little hum. The moment's ruined a split-second later; he pulls back from the kiss with a borderline laugh-squawk, pushing at Bakugou's shoulder gently so they don't spill coffee. ]
Oh, you'll let me. Daddy, you're so kind.
[ Swinging his leg off, he slithers onto the ground again and ignores the way his throat feels hot from Bakugou's touch. From the kitchen there's a PAPAAAAAAA and barking, which means he needs to get moving. Coffee in hand he heads back out into the kitchen, pleasantly surprised to find that there's not food everywhere, though Barkugou is perched underneath their daughter's feet to catch any scraps. ]
Alright, you know the drill. Wash up, I'll get your backpack ready.
[Bakugou gets up, but does it languidly, trying to sip most of the coffee so it doesn't get cold and doesn't spill on his way out. He puts on slouchy, ankle-clutched sweats and a t-shirt that screams bright red and PLUS ULTRA! in white.
From out of the bedroom and down the hall, he lumbers toward the kitchen as a little girl comes bounding in the opposite direction. She leaps at him with absolutely zero reservation, and he throws his arm out while she latches immediately onto it. With astounding control, he hefts her up with just his arm, careful of the coffee, and slings her gently over his shoulder onto her back. She clings to his neck.]
Mornin', heroess.
[He makes a detour into the bathroom, putting the mug down on the sink top.] Aren't you suppose t'be washing for school? [But she wants him to do it while she holds onto his neck and shoulders. He guesses he'll wash his own face and stuff while washing hers.

In the meantime, Bakugou is discharged to his apartment, with the strict instructions of making certain he doesn't tear any stitches. For some reason the nurse from earlier levels a look at him, points, and tells him to make sure which okay, fine, that's valid but it's not like Bakugou's going to listen to him, not really.
They take a cab to Bakugou's place where Midoriya tells him he knows he's not going to follow any of the instructions but like, at least try? Maybe? He vanishes a few hours to get things like food and anything else that Bakugou doesn't have readily available, along with his laptop and a few other miscellaneous things from his apartment. On his way back he buys two more bags of groceries and supplies, so by the time he's back in Bakugou's apartment his arms are full and while he's not straining it's weird to feel like a piece of himself is missing. Maybe missing isn't the right word; it's not a bad feeling, but it feels like there's a thread, something connecting him to Bakugou. Did All Might feel this too, with him?
It's not something he can ask so he shoves it down and focuses on unpacking. Grocery bags are put in the kitchen and Midoriya tugs something else out of the bag - a massive, soft blanket which he casually drops on top of Bakugou's head on the way back into the kitchen. ]
I'm going to make dinner, do you want anything in particular? [ A pause, considering. ] I'm not making hot pockets for dinner, just so you know.

Offered a kind of challenge(?), Bakugou practically pools completely into the kitchen. The drawer he opens has both a small assortment of utensils and also the larger spoons wedged beside the wooden utensil holder. He lifts one out and hands it over to Midoriya. Far right drawer on the end. From out of this same drawer, he takes a knife in a sheathe, uncovers it and puts it on the counter for a moment so he can organize things.
Chopping is fine. He’s good at it. When he finally gets going, when Midoriya gives him things, it’s actually not unlike how he had been at the camp when they were making dinner, when Uraraka found it astoundingly horrific he was that good with a knife. He’s not quite so chaotic anymore, but he is still insanely fast and accurate. It’s a wonder they aren’t headed back to the hospital so he can get a finger reattached.]
Spices are in the slotted drawer that pulls out between the fridge and the counter.
[He can’t point exactly, so he waits until Midoriya is looking at him, and then he nods toward the skinny rolling cart-drawer shoved in the space between. Three rows of spices and ingredients. If Bakugou cooks, this is the best evidence. Weird.]

On one hand, the humbling Bakugou had to go through in high school was probably needed. On the other, Midoriya wants for Bakugou to think of himself even half as highly as Midoriya does despite everything. Like many subjects, it's one he barely touches until it seems like it might be an alright moment. ]

[ They were hilarious, but also he would never live it down, especially with the part you pull and it going up and down. They'd turned that down, but Midoriya had posted it in the group chat to near endless hysterics.
Everything he needs is assembled before he starts heating the water; it's not his kitchen and he wants to make sure he doesn't mess anything up by forgetting something so he's careful.
So, cooking... obviously superhero duties. Some collectibles. Not a lot[ He starts peeling garlic, leaning against the countertop. His arm, the one with the cast off of it, is scarred a little more heavily, fresh and pink but mostly hidden by the long green sleeves save for where the cuffs are rolled up. ] Do you ever think about traveling?

[ Midoriya snickers himself a little bit, pleased that he got Bakugou to break. The nurses didn't say anything about not laughing, so he figures it shouldn't count as strenuous. The water starts to boil, he busies himself with a series of bowls, puttering around Bakugou's kitchen admirably. ]
No, I won't fire them! It didn't get made so it's alright. [ He's utterly distracted a moment, watching Bakugou's hands do such a normal task and then turns back to the bowls, adding something into the pot, studiously watching it while he focuses on answering rather than ogling. ] Yeah. Mom's actually going to go see him later this year, I think. It's over a holiday so I can't, but I thought it might be fun to travel at some point. Some of the others were talking about doing a group trip and it sounded like it could be fun. Depending on where they chose, I guess, but I don't think anyone would choose anywhere too bad.

It helps him avoid the countless questions internally about whether or not it's alright that he doesn't know what he wants. ] I talked to All Might about it because I was worried it was irresponsible... but he pointed out that it was important for us to have as much experience and to learn from as many people as we could. So... I haven't really decided.

When Ms. Potts presents the two of them with plane tickets and tells them that under no uncertain terms are they to come back before those tickets tell them to, he tries to tell her no. She can't use the argument that they're already bought because Midoriya knows the frankly obscene amount of money Mr. Stark has but she's just as intimidating as everyone else which means he and Bakugou find themselves on a flight to Malibu as incognito as they can be.
Midoriya tugs a beanie over bed-rumpled hair (why are flights cross-country so early?) and settles into the first class seat, staring blankly when he's offered champagne, , coffee or orange juice at seven in the morning. Coffee, he says more like a question and doctors it up with a frankly disgusting amount of sugar and cream, finally settling into the seat.
The barrier between their chairs goes up, which means once they've taken off, Midoriya pushes it out of the way and shamelessly leans into Bakugou's shoulder, cheek tucked in against him. It's not blatantly couple-y but it feels a little like it as he scrolls through his phone mindlessly, half-wondering if Bakugou's going to sleep or stay awake the whole six hours. When blankets come out, he shamelessly takes them and shakes one out, then the other, glancing up at Bakugou with a silent question. ]

But here his ass is, sitting side by side and first class with Midoriya, headed back across the damn planet to Malibu. "Who do I have to punch to get them to steer it back up to Japan?" is what he asks once they're funneling themselves down the aisle to the seats.
After, as bored already as he had been when first flying over, he orders a conservative, straight black coffee. The only addition to it is a shot of rum. Sue him.
He has his over-the-ear headphones on, but the volume is low enough he can hear Midoriya if chatter starts, or the stewards, or the overhead English. His head lifts and eyes glance up when Midoriya sits up. He looks between the blankets and Midoriya's unspoken question, then he grunts.] Come on. [He reaches behind his shoulders and shifts the pillow, turning so he can stretch out. [He beckons Midoriya with a wide hand to... fine, snuggle up beside him or whatever.

It's not perfectly comfortable but it's only for a handful of hours and when he gets the blankets and pillow situated (mostly using Bakugou as a pillow) it's actually...nice. Shameless with the invitation, Midoriya scoots under his shoulder and makes sure that Bakugou gets some of the blanket too; it's thin and barely does anything but Midoriya's slept in worse situations.
It also means that the blanket hides when he puts his hand on the inside of Bakugou's thigh, thumb tracing idly back and forth as he listens to the white noise of the plane. Every so often he'll tilt his phone, showing Bakugou the latest thing someone back home is doing. His mom has new plants, and she went out with Bakugou's for lunch. Kirishima took down some villain and got a newspaper spread.
Their friends are amazing, and it feels weird to be taking a break but it was pointed out that, well, they're going to another big city and it's not like crime just...stops. So he contents himself with dozing intermittently until they hit a rough patch of air and his hand clenches on Bakugou's thigh tightly, tensing up. He's not afraid of flying but ugh, ugh this part is the worst. Quietly, ]

He drapes an arm around the top of Midoriya's chest, giving him both hands to scroll through his phone off to the side while Midoriya scrolls through the other. He glances when it's offered, either grunts, as usual, or cracks a smirk, or leans forward (with Kirishima, his bro) with interest.
And then he lies back, ends up dozing some with his phone propped on his chest along with Midoriya's head. The turbulence doesn't wake him so much as the grab on his leg, and he starts like he thinks Midoriya is in trouble, blinking blearily.] Mn.
Yeah... [He pulls the headphones off and glances around. Bad wind, he guesses. The sound behind his ears through the window is rocky.] Then you'd come out the other end with your ass on your head. [He puts his wide palm on the back of Midoriya's neck and rubs gently.] Here.
[Without waiting, he pops the red headphones over Midoriya's ears and settles the band in the fluff of green on top.

[ Midoriya's voice pitches up in incredulity, grinning up at him. There's no way, the meatball quirk is so much worse. His skin prickles just thinking about it and he's spent a lot of time thinking about it. ]

[ There are some cute games and he got it as a Christmas present!!! Any of it is good as a distraction, though. He's not scared of flying, exactly. They're durable enough that he's relatively certain they'd stand a chance of surviving a crash. Other people, less likely and the situation was ultimately a nightmare to consider. (Which, he has, in almost every iteration whenever he sees the steward's quirks, but threat evaluating every situation you're in is totally normal.)
The more pressing issue is that there's a lack of control that feels uniquely weird with being a hero. The internet is spotty. They can't make phone calls. All they can do is wait until they get to the end of the trip. Traveling by train is just so much easier. ]

PART 8 - x years later
Grimacing at his phone, Midoriya thumbs the alarm off and his arm falls limply onto Bakugou's chest again, face burying into his shoulder. They have a few minutes before their daughter is up, which means he's spending it tugging the blankets up around the wild mass of his hair, breathing in the smell of Bakugou's skin while they lay there, fighting off sleep. There are a few quiet moments of relaxing, just listening to Bakugou's breathing, and then he hears her door open and close, the creak of steps as she heads to their room. ]
M'on it.
[ Pushing himself up on to one arm, Midoriya drops a kiss onto Bakugou's cheek, and then another lingering one onto his lips because they're there just in time for their daughter to smack the door open. Technically, it's their day off which means that as soon as they get her off to school they can crawl back into bed for another couple hours. Behind them, there's a come oooon! and tiny hands thudding against the door excitedly to get them up and then feet smacking down the hall to the kitchen. ]
I'm gonna get the little hero fed before she tries to crawl onto the counters again, and start some coffee.
part EIGHT i'm
Now he just feels old, and he's out unintentionally later than he'd like to really be more times than he enjoys. But usually it's with Midoriya, and most of the time it's enough distracted action and fight, he doesn't care. Then he comes home and they're dumped into an attempt at normalcy and bed, and he's asleep before he can even count to two.
His grunt by Midoriya's wildly fluffy hair is full of rocks, and it's going to be deliciously endearing when he finally blesses the world with words. For now, he huddles under the sheets and turns over, arm slithering across Midoriya's middle until they're flush. The silence almost puts him back to sleep, but the door shut down the hall gets him to grumble:] Dammit. [He digs his fingers into Midoriya's hip until he gets at least the kiss on the each.]
More like... little fuckin' villain... [He rolls over and shoves his face into the pillow, scrubbing the rough barely stubble of his jawline on it.] ...Comin'. [Once he drags himself up and puts more clothes on.]

[ Groggily, he makes his way out of the bedroom and as he's passing by the counters, scoops their daughter off the counter and onto his hip despite her protests that she can make her own breakfast. She can, it's just significantly less messy if he handles pouring milk into the cereal bowl.
Balancing her on his hip as he moves around the kitchen, he starts a pot of coffee and gets her settled at the table with cereal and milk. Be right back, he tells her, leveling a finger at her with a little smile, finish that, then brush your teeth.
It's debatable on if she'll listen, but she agrees and he fills a second coffee mug to the brim, heading back into the bedroom, to carefully crawl up onto the bed, straddling Bakugou's waist over the blankets. ]

Except, it begins wagging and moving when Midoriya comes up onto the bed. It's the dog, free of guard duty from the kid's room, making rounds by checking on Midoriya and Bakugou before once again, later, returning to the kid.
He waits until Midoriya has settled before he drops the phone on the bed beside him and reaches out to accept the mug of coffee. It doesn't matter how hot it is, his hands are too rough to care. Give him the Energy Elixir of Life so he can function with a little brat running him ragged.]

[ Midoriya murmurs to the lump of fur under Bakugou's arm, scratching an ear fondly once he has a hand free. After a cursory series of sniffs and a lick to his fingers, she hauls herself up and hops off the bed to go try and eat the cereal their kid has likely spilled. It leaves them alone for a few moments and while Midoriya knows that it's not going to be a long period of time, it's nice to just sip his coffee and wake up a little.
Gently, he combs fingers through Bakugou's hair, laughing quietly as it does nothing to tame the mess of hair under his fingers. Giving up, he strokes his fingers over Bakugou's jaw, thumbing over the roughness there. ]
Don't worry, the fuzzy vacuum just left to handle that for us.
[ Bakguou always looks good enough to eat but sleep-rumpled in bed is one of his favorite looks for him. ]
I just wanted to drop this off. You can pay me with a kiss and then I'll go make sure she hasn't blown up the kitchen table.

[His smirk is familiar, but he releases Midoriya so the man can get up. He's gotta start doing the same.]

From the kitchen there's a PAPAAAAAAA and barking, which means he needs to get moving. Coffee in hand he heads back out into the kitchen, pleasantly surprised to find that there's not food everywhere, though Barkugou is perched underneath their daughter's feet to catch any scraps. ]

She leaps at him with absolutely zero reservation, and he throws his arm out while she latches immediately onto it.
